[history] "My first recollection of using the word 'clone' was in 1998 when I was running Gravity Daze (skateshop in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent), when I had three kids standing in front of me, all wearing the same coloured Nike tracksuit. I said to them "do you know what the word clone means?" and they just stared at me with a vacant expression and replied "no!" They then just left. One of the objects of Clone Skateboards is to try and convey a message to these kids, that they don't have to follow the crowd to feel accepted, that strength lies in being an individual. It wasn't until September 2004 that I thought about my understanding of Clone. It was then I saw the phrase- "We are all born original, don't die a copy" Written by a guy named John Mason, it just seemed to sum up how I felt about us all being here and trying to find our own way. I've been a skateboarder now for 28 years, I started when I was 12, and I know it had a positive effect on the way I grew up, and still does today. I hope anyone who discovers Clone Skateboards, whatever age or gender, might take the time out to think about themselves and perhaps realise that strength comes from within and to follow your own path. Be the ONE who stands out from the crowd and be yourself................. Drew Sanger. |
